Emergency Services

For emergencies, please call 906-786-8020 and when prompted press 1 for the emergency.

Although we are not staffed 24 hours a day, Escanaba Veterinary Clinic does employ an answering service that will page the doctor on call for medical emergencies.

We see emergencies during the evening and overnight hours as well as during business hours. Please call us at (906)786-8020 for immediate assistance.  If calling after hours, please follow the phone prompts to page one of our doctors.  Most often you will receive a call back from a doctor within 15 minutes of your message.  Be aware that there can be extenuating circumstances that may delay the phone call up to 1 hour.

Emergency fee during business hours is $85.00

Emergency fee after business hours is $200.00

If we determine that your pet requires overnight nursing care or a level of specialty we cannot provide here, we will co-ordinate your pet's referral to the appropriate critical care or specialty hospital.

Need to add Blocked and Restricted Phone Calls

Blocked and Restricted Calls

Many people need to get a hold of a doctor for their pet after hours. Many people and their pet face an emergency at least once in their pet’s lifetime. When this situation occurs it is scary. You need to be able to get a hold of your pet’s doctor immediately. No matter what time it is. Here at The Escanaba Veterinary Clinic we have a doctor on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.

How it works: You call our number 906-786-8020. You listen to the message and press 1 for an emergency. You will then get another message that allows you to leave a message at the sound of the tone. Our doctor receives your message and returns your call within the hour.

What makes this not work: When our doctor calls you, the client back, the doctor is calling from a Restricted or Blocked phone. Most people knowingly or not have a feature on their phone that does not allow incoming calls from a Blocked or Restricted phone. This makes it impossible for the doctor to return your call.

What to do: We recommend that you call your telephone service provider to see if you have this feature on your phone and have this feature removed before an emergency occurs. Most people who do have it don’t realize they have it until an emergency occurs. It does not matter if it is a cell phone or land line, this feature is applied to both. When you are calling your doctor at 2:00am you will not be able to call your telephone provider at that time to have it removed.

If this happens to you: If you should call and leave a message and the doctor does not return your call with in the hour, it is safe to say that you are one of the many who have this feature on your phone and the doctor is not able to call you back because of it. You need to call again and leave an alternate phone number for the doctor.

This has been an issue for some. They were unable to get a hold of a doctor when needed because of this feature. They were unaware they even had this feature. There is NO reason a doctor will not return your call within the hour, other than they are not able to get through because of this feature.

Again, please check with your telephone service provider to see if your phone service has this feature and have it removed. Or leave more than one number for the doctor to return your call.
